"I'm from Texas, I'll do what I want!" #'murica

Well, it is kind of a toss-up between Alberta or all of Australia being the Texas of the Commonwealth, and I mean that in the best of ways.

Australia has no guns and has never fought for independence. Australia is not Texas at all.

Yes, I see what you mean.
The no guns thing is fairly recent though, before that, guns were a big part of Australian culture for over a century.

Interestingly, it seems none the worse for these seeming failings.

Depends on your definition of worse. IMHO seems like just another category in which the state in Australia takes more control of every day life.

Western Australia has tried to gain independence from the rest of us several times during our history. Though mostly through petitions and such.
Also our largest state.
Our gun control laws were not taken seriously until after the Port Arthur Massacre. Which occurred in 1996.
many people I know have had guns pulled on them, including myself, and in my area at least there are at least a couple of "drive by" house shootings a month.
Is it anywhere near as bad as America? No. But there are guns.

The fact that you consider guns to vet a part of everyday life is amusing.

Lol where was this?

Different cultures. I probably live in one of the most gun populated areas in the world. It's as much of a recreation as anything else. With that said, I've never had any weapon pulled on me, my family or friends.

To be fair, this is the part of Australia in live in.

Looks like a colorful and lively neighborhood.
